Dental Care FAQ's

Healthy teeth are essential for your pet’s overall health and comfort. Dental disease is the most common medical condition in dogs and cats. By the age of three, most pets already have some degree of periodontal disease. Left untreated, dental disease can lead to:

  • oral pain
  • tooth loss
  • infection of the gums and bone
  • bacteria entering the bloodstream and affecting the heart, liver, and kidneys

A professional dental procedure allows us to thoroughly clean your pet’s teeth and evaluate the health of the mouth and tooth roots. At Second Chances Veterinary Care, every dental procedure includes a Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment (COHAT) performed under safe general anesthesia.

Laboratory Services

As a pet owner, ensuring the health and wellness of your furry companion is of utmost importance. Regular check-ups and lab tests can help detect potential health issues early on and provide prompt treatment. That’s why a veterinarian’s lab service plays a crucial role in ensuring the well-being of your pet. Here at our vet’s lab, we offer a range of tests to help diagnose and treat various health conditions in your pet.

Our lab tests cover a wide range of health parameters, including kidney function, liver function, blood count, parasite infections, and hormone levels. One of the most important tests we offer is the SDMA test, which detects early signs of kidney disease in pets. Other essential tests include the Heartworm Antigen Test, which screens for heartworm infections in dogs, and fecal parasite tests that can detect the presence of parasites like Giardia.

In addition, our lab offers tests for complete blood count, liver enzymes, and thyroid hormone levels to help detect any underlying health conditions that may affect your pet’s overall health. Our comprehensive urinalysis test can also help identify any urinary tract infections or other issues that may need treatment. By utilizing our lab services, you can ensure that your pet receives the best possible care and treatment for any health conditions that may arise.
