About Second Chances Veterinary Care
Thank you for supporting Second Chances Veterinary Care. We are an affordably priced outpatient surgery, procedural, and urgent care-focused veterinary clinic.
About Second Chances Veterinary Care
Second Chances Veterinary Care (SCVC) is an INDEPENDENTLY OWNED outpatient surgery, procedural and urgent care veterinary clinic. Our first mission is to provide no-nonsense veterinary care at affordable prices because pet owners deserve the chance to give their pet the care it needs…
Our second mission is to be a resource for a network of local general, ER, urgent care, and specialty veterinary practices for their clients that cannot afford the treatment plans presented to them. Each practice has its own unique costs of providing services, so understandably each needs to charge accordingly for their time, staff, inventory used, etc. Owners find that the cost of any given treatment plan can vary from one type of practice to another. At the root of our mission is to extend care to more pets in need while working with their family veterinarian.
We can help remove clinic-related barriers inhibiting pets from getting the care they need. SCVC’s highly innovative practice model is designed to provide a practical SPECTRUM OF CARE by meeting pet owner’s where they are financially. While we do not extend credit directly through the hospital, we do offer flexible payment options through 3rd party vendors – some requiring no minimum credit score.
To help keep our services, medicines, products and prices affordable we would like to make you aware of the following:
We operate on a technician-driven appointment model, which offers cost savings without compromising care. This means pet parents may not directly see or consult with a doctor during their scheduled appointment time. A technician-driven appointment model allow us to accomplish the following:
- Efficiency: Our model optimizes efficiency, allowing us to provide accessible and affordable care to more pets.
- Skilled Veterinary Staff: Highly trained veterinary staff members gather information provided by the pet parent given before the appointment, confirm additional details once you and your pet arrive, then perform initial evaluations and diagnostics. All information is then shared with the doctor.
- Doctor Examination: The doctor then conducts a thorough examination based on the information provided asking for additional details if needed.
- Diagnostic & Treatment Plan: A PERSONALIZED diagnostic and treatment plan is developed by the doctor for EVERY PET and communicated to you through the veterinary staff, phone or digital channels.
Direct veterinary consultation [in-person or telehealth] with the doctor is available; however is not included in the initial office visit or examination charges. A request for professional veterinary consultation services can be added-on at any time for current patients. Services are billed in 0.1 unit hourly increments with a 0.3 unit minimum.
Dr. Mausbach’s professional service rate for a consultation (in-person, phone, email, text) is $240/hour. A 15-minute minimum consultation fee (0.3 hours) $72.00. This rate is subject to change at any time.
While our business model is not geared toward general wellness or chronic patient and disease management, we do hold regular wellness clinics as well as vaccine & wellness service appointment availability [vaccinations, deworming, access to full in-house & reference laboratory testing, heartworm & FeLV/FIV testing, flea/tick/heartworm preventative and more] with one of our experienced staff members.
We gladly see any patient who has had a surgery or procedure at our facility for recheck examinations & follow up care.
We always advocate that you find a family veterinarian to establish a trusted and long lasting relationship for all of your pet’s other needs: doctor-directed annual wellness exams, continued care, and ongoing chronic disease management.
We strongly advocate for pet-parents to download and utilize a TELEHEALTH APP. Telehealth can often be a reasonable low cost alternative to get your pet-related questions answered; labwork interpreted; and oftentimes, medications [re]filled.
We recommend the telehealth following services; however, we are not directly affiliated with or accountable for the advice received:: Pawp, Dutch, Fuzzy, or Connect with a Vet by Chewy. These organizations listed all have one or more of the following options: no-cost, low-cost, free trial periods, medication refills, and online access to $3,000+ of emergency pet funds for a low monthly membership rate.
If you do not have a smartphone, you can also call PetIQ Veterinary Telehealth Helpline FREE – 1-800-775-4519 – 7 days a week, 10 a.m.—7 p.m. EST.
We are also ready to work hand in hand with local veterinarians, shelters, rescues, & more to provide HIGH QUALITY PROCEDURAL & DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES to dogs and cats. We want to form a partnership with the patient’s current provider to ensure the best URGENT CARE MANAGEMENT for both the pet parent & the patient. We always advocate for pet parents to return to their family veterinarian for all follow-up, chronic disease management, & general wellness exams.
We look forward to helping you and your pet with their surgical and urgent care needs soon!
Sincerely – Dr. Lisa Mausbach and the Staff at Second Chances Veterinary Care
